PROJECT OVERVIEW

This project was a true passion project for me, as I wanted to recreate the entire opening level of the original PlayStation game Dino Crisis 2, created by CAPCOM. Because of my love for this game I went all out in trying to make the environment as realistic as possible.

When building this Environment piece my aim was to make the jungle, extremely rich in plant life, this lush and life like jungle aided in making the world look and feel lived in by many animals, or in this case Dinosaurs. Mixing natural rock formations in with the trees and other plant life enabled for the environment to be realistic, and when the human elements were added in, such as the military equipment and storage containers, the world felt lived in.

Producing this project enabled me to truly analyse the original game, as using it a source material always kept me wanting to check back to the original areas of the game just to make sure that I had rebuilt it accurately. Even though some creative liberties had to be taken due to the original games use of fixed camera angles , I truly believe that this is a faithful recreation of a classic .

BLOCKOUT

I produced a Blockout of the environment to begin with so that I could more easily map out the terrain and decide how I wanted to proceed. the Blockout was very simple but featured all the areas that I wanted to construct in the environment, it allowed me to get the scale correct for when I came to meshing out the environment.

MESHING OUT

Once the Blockout had been completed I began to mesh out the environment using a multitude of assets ranging from jungle style trees and flora, military equipment and vehicles, industrial equipment and buildings along with other natural exempts such as rocks, leaves, Mud and grass.
